| Choirmaster | Bernard Kunkel The choirmaster of Washington Memorial is Bernard Kunkel. Bernie came to the position of Choirmaster in 1995, after serving as assistant organist from 1993, under Choirmaster James Wallace. Bernie has a great rapport with the boys of the choir, and spends many hours in musicianship lessons with each of the treble boys. Bernie has built up the trebles from a lowly four to the current level of fifteen. Plainly put, the boys love working with Bernie, and the music shows it. Bernie started his musical education studying piano performance at Hartt School of Music, a division of the University of Hartford. Extending his keyboard skills to the Organ, Bernie has played many recitals in Philadelphia and its suburbs. Not only is he a virtuosic Organist, but he also works in the capacity of organ technician, assisting in repairing and maintaining many of the well known Philadelphia organs such as Christ Church, St Mark's Church Locust Street, St Clement's Church, and The Curtis Institute of Music. We don't know how Bernie finds the time or energy for it, but in addition to his five day schedule at Washington Memorial, he also finds time to act as Voice Teacher at Radnor High School, Assistant Conductor of The Music Group of Philadelphia, as well as being adjunct on the Music Theory faculty at Swathmore College. |

Leslie-Hughes John and David do a remarkable job of keeping order amidst much chaos. They have a particularly thankless task, one which remains unnoticed so long as it is being done properly. David's keen Anglican sense of order goes well with John's "lets get it done" attitude. They put in many hours a month sorting and filing music and keeping the program running smoothly. This year they vow to charge the choir boys for the chore of filing their folders in their storage boxes! |
| Choir Whip | Robert Landis Bob brings his peculiar talents to us after teaching for more than 25 years at the prestigious Haverford School for Boys. Bob works with the choristers to help them prepare for their duties, such as reading at our regular Friday Evensong service. In addition to his tutorial duties Bob also makes sure the transportation for the boys is coordinated, and no boy is left stranded at the Chapel after services. |

Guild President |
Erika Rau Erika has a unique way of getting a job done, she just waits patiently until what she needs gets done. Don't try to sweep it under the carpet, if it is on Erika's agenda you can count on seeing it on YOUR agenda! We all need Erikas when a job becomes hopelessly procrastinated. Her insistant "I'm not telling, I'm asking!" attitude has unjambed many an institutional logjamb and gotten things moving again. Bravo, Erika, keep up the good work! |
